Wow what a ride it's been. I feel like it was only yesterday that I first entered high school as a freshmen. Time sure flies I guess. I do want to talk about my journey through high school and how I have grown as a person not only academically, but spiritually and emotionally as well. To start, I can say with confidence that I have grown a lot physically. I think I started as a freshmen at a height of about 5'9" so it's a pretty big jump these last 4 years. Additionally I have achieved the ability to grow facial hair which not everyone has so that's pretty cool. But to the main point, I think that I have learned a lot through the 4 years I've been at Troy High. Academically speaking, I have improved time management, studying, and just a little less procrastination. I've even been able to fix my sleep schedule.  Emotionally, I'm gonna miss the school. I'm going to miss the environment, the excitement of meeting new teachers and eagerly looking for wh...

Ten Years of Reading

Image
  1. The Call of the Wild by Jack London Struck me because of the relation between the story and my life as well as many others. The transition between having a life that is supported by your family and others, to being thrown into a brand new environment where you have to learn to adapt is important and this book centers around that idea. I definitely will read this in the near future as I’m very interested as to how the story turns out. 2. The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut The contrast between having the most money and being the most depraved, yet having the chance to embark a great journey is rather strange. On top of this, the condition to taking this amazing journey is a mystery in its own which tells the question, does the title show any hints in the story? Interesting read that I hope to tackle at some point. 3. The Martian by Andy Weir Once again tying to the relation between story and my life, being in a situation where you have to adapt in order to survive is a massive...

Looking Back

Image
We have just 3 more weeks to go. It’s been a long ride and a very enjoyable one. And I look back to see all the amazing experiences I’ve had over the 4 years I’ve been at Troy High. Making a lot of friends, taking tough AP’s and trying my best not to fail, winning the tennis state championship in junior year, and finally entering the last stretch of senior year, ready to enter college. But what changes have I made to myself that make me so much more knowledgeable than I was 4 years ago? There’s plenty of changes, for example my physical appearance. But that’s besides the point. Point being, what internal changes have I made?  For starters, I have learned to enjoy certain things more than I did when I started high school. Being around my family has been a norm. It’s not uncommon to take that for advantage. Now I see that and I tend to interact and talk to my parents more instead of staying cooped in my bedroom 24/7. Another change I made was more related to school purposes and...

It’s all in your head

I’m Nobody! Who are you? Are you - Nobody - too? Then there’s a pair of us! Don’t tell! they’d advertise - you know! I was feel as though I need to be occupied with something. Being occupied means that I have a purpose so it gives satisfaction to know that I’m not unnecessary or unwanted. But what if I was?  What am I? It sounds so simple. A human being, a student… the list can go on and on. So then why could it possibly be so hard to figure out the “right” answer? Then again, knowing your identity is based off passion, confidence, personality, etc. And how could a nobody know that huh? Where did the term nobody even come from anyway? As in the term that describes a person being nonexistent or useless as to having no body in the vicinity. The whole idea of condescending a person just because they don’t have something unique to call their own is not exactly optimistic. And let’s be honest, if you take the term nobody and apply it to the universal, we are all unknown to the maj...

A Psalm of my Life

When I first read the poem, “A Psalm of Life”, there was a lot to interpret. It could be the main purpose of the poem which was to argue that life is precious and important, or maybe even that what was expressed in the poem was evidently false. Either way, it speaks to a general audience of people and their beliefs. But it has made me realize all the important things in my life. And I want to be able to recognize at least some of these things in this blog. Firstly we see in the poem, that “Art is long, Time is fleeting, And our hearts, though stout and brave,…”. Honestly, these two lines say a lot about how people choose to live and what is there to accomplish. In this case, Art seems almost like a representation of life and how it can be long and tiresome, but the irony is that time is short, and people who fail to recognize that are sooner or later, going to regret the decision they were or ere not able to make. Additionally, the poet is dead set on proving to this unknown chara...

To Rise

It’s never easy to push against temptations. When we talked about Siddhartha, we discussed his initial downward spiral into temptation and worldly desire and how he was unable to make his change. But over time, he is able to rid himself of attachment and attain purity and tranquility. While this method of enlightenment works for Siddhartha, there are other forms of tranquility and peace in life. In the video we saw in class today, we saw a person reading and enacting a poem that analyzes the meaning of life, what is meant by it, and how nostalgic it is to know that everything will one day disappear. It is quite the revelation but he does mention that he does not feel this way. His way of thinking persuades him to believe that there are things in life worth holding onto, and that squeezing tighter to things that we love is something that makes us human and whole.  I will be frank, enlightenment ideas a tough topic to visualize. There is no direct definition, no instructions on how t...

Time Flies

Image
Time flies doesn’t it? I mean seriously, everything has just gone by so quickly. I still remember the first day that I moved to the US in 6th grade and went for my first day in middle school. If you were to tell me back then that I would be the person I am today well, I would not believe it. Senior year has been somewhat of a last ride for me and I think that for a lot of others it’s about the same. It’s the last chance to make our mark, and while most have already done so, it feels special to know that next year, all this will be but a lasting memory. But all these nostalgic things aside, I’m glad that things have turned out the way they have. I’m loving the experience of being at the end of high school and behind all the stress(SAT). And having the chance to almost unwind and take it easy seems like a luxury that students normally don’t have. It’s a great feeling to know your hard work has paid off and that you can take a rest. Now all the experiences couldn’t have come without ...
